Giancarlo Ligabue Natural History Museum 16 October – 8 November 2020

Also this year in the Cetacean Gallery of the Giancarlo Ligabue Natural History Museum there is the exhibition with the winning photos of the International Underwater Photography Competition organized by Abissi Underwater Photo Venice, now in its thirteenth edition.

Despite the serious pandemic situation that prevented many photographers from diving during the year, the “City of Venice” competition saw the participation of over 50 underwater photographers. Almost 200 photos were submitted and come from the seas all over the world as well as their authors from Italy, Austria, Germany, Greece, Belgium, the United States, Hawaii, Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The 30 photos exhibited were selected by a jury of experts in the field composed of Davide Lopresti, Fabio Iardino and Marcello di Francesco.

In order to add value to this splendid photographic material, but also to promote love and respect for the sea and the organisms that populate it, the authors – as in previous editions of the exhibition – have granted the free use of the images to the Museum for scientific, popular and educational purposes.

The public will also be able to admire a glass work created for the occasion by the master glassmaker Stefano Dalla Valentina, sponsor and collaborator of ‘Abissi’ since the first edition, and the illuminated glass miniatures by the artist Mauro Vianello.

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE PHOTO
From Saturday 17th October it will be possible to vote for your favourite photo directly on the Museum’s Facebook page or by framing the QR code on the poster. The public vote will be published on the Museum’s website and social channels.

The entrance to the exhibition is included in the Museum entrance ticket.

The photo of the poster is by Paolo Bausani, other shots are available in the press kit, with the name of their authors to be reported.
